Credo Mobile: More than a mobile network. A movement.

credo mobile

So, for over a year now I’ve been getting emails from this great mobile network company, Credo Mobile.  I love what they’re about.   Here is a quote from their website that pretty much sums it up:

“Many companies, especially large ones, hire lobbyists to mold government policies and legislation to serve their financial interests. CREDO blazes a different path. We fight for progressive social change with 3 million of our activist friends at CREDO Action. No lobbyists, no back-door meetings, no candidate contributions. Just ordinary Americans, galvanized to speak truth to power.”

Most people don’t know that their mobile network provider may be supporting politicians and government policies that are not in line with their beliefs.  For example, AT&T has given $1.96 million to the Republican Governors Association and $588,500 to the Blue Dog Democrats (which, confusingly, are actually a conservative branch of the party that opposes reproductive rights, marriage equality and gun control).  They’ve also contributed upwards of $600,000 to the Tea Party congressional candidates.

On the other hand, Since 1985, CREDO has raised more than $70 million for courageous groups working on economic justice, reproductive choice, global warming, human rights and much more. Groups like Planned Parenthood, Defenders of Wildlife, Democracy Now, Human Rights Watch and the ACLU.

With all of that said, for multiple reasons, I haven’t made the switch yet.  1) Plain old laziness and 2) It would mean switching out my iPhone for a Samsung Galaxy (which I hear are pretty awesome, btw).  I am headed in that direction though, as this is on my mind a lot.  I really do believe that the only way to be heard by big corporations and the government is to fight for what we believe in using our dollars. So, I thought the least I could do is share this with all of you in hopes that some of you are ready to make the switch now.  Check out their site and see if it is something that makes sense for you….and spread the word!!
